International Programs -WSI Brussels
The Brussels office, established in 2000,
continues to follow and analyze the security policies of the
European Union and its individual member states, and serves
as a source of defense expertise to media and decision-makers
in EU institutions, EU member states, and the United States.The
Brussels office advises members of the European Parliament,
the European Commission and the Council of the European Union
on external security-related matters.
Tomas Valasek, director of the Brussels
office, frequently organizes briefings and discussions aimed
at exploring issues on the European defense agenda. He also
advises the Slovak Foreign and Defense ministries, serves
on the editorial boarld of Bezpecnoste analyzy (Security Analyses)
and works as guest lecturer at the Comenius University in
Bratislava and as a defense and foreign policy analyst for
the Czech language edition of the Britsih Broadcasting Corporation
(BBC).
In September 2004, the Brussels office
published Easternization
of Europe's Security Policy, co-edited by Mr. Valasek and
Olga Gyarfasova.
